Each semester, Political Awareness proudly partners with The Washington Center’s prestigious academic internship program to bring in the brightest emerging talent. This summer, we’re thrilled to host more than 30 exceptional student interns, In this issue, we’re highlighting one who has already made a meaningful impact.
Jonathan Charlestream is a sophomore majoring in political science at Idaho State University. Originally from Eagle River, Alaska. Jonathan is deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic and mission-driven organization.
“Opportunities like this don’t come around often,” he said. “I’ve proved to everyone that I can make it here on my own, and that’s exactly what I did.”
Charlestream joined Political Awareness because he is passionate about educating and mobilizing voters. He’s especially eager to sharpen his writing and communication skills throughout his internship. Despite only completing his first year of college. Jonathan already serves as vice president of the Sexualities and Gender Alliance at Idaho State. In that role, he has attended conferences and protests and collaborated with a local nonprofit supporting unhoused LGBTQ+ individuals.
“All of us have a duty to protect each other, and I’m going to fulfill that duty,” Charlestream said.
In just his first week, Jonathan has shown himself to be an invaluable member of the Political Awareness team, bringing energy, insight, and leadership to everything he does. We’re honored to have him with us this summer.
