This week, Swedish climate advocate Greta Thunberg and 11 other pro-Palestinian activists attempted to sail to Gaza. On a ship dubbed the Madleen carrying aid supplies. Before reaching the coast, they were intercepted by Israeli forces, with all crew members and supplies diverted to Israel.
Four individuals from the group, including Thunberg, were deported. The remaining eight refused and will remain detained until a court hearing is held. Thunberg claims that Israel kidnapped her. Her detainment was a war crime against Palestinians and a violation of international law.
On June 10, a gunman opened fire at a high school in Austria, killing nine people and injuring at least 30 more. The gunman was identified as a former student, Salzburger Nachrichten. The investigation is still ongoing. But the Austrian Chancellor has announced that the country will have three days of mourning in light of the tragic events, according to Al Jazeera.
The Russia-Ukraine War continues with no ceasefire in sight. In early June, Ukrainian forces carried out Operation Spiderweb, where drones carrying explosives struck four Russian airbases. In retaliation, Russia launched an attack including 450 drones and 45 missiles on the night of June 9.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskyy is demanding action from the United States to coerce Russia into peaceful negotiations with Ukraine and its European partners. The U.S. responded by suggesting the two nations independently resolve their issues like “children in a park,” according to President Donald Trump, as reported by Al Jazeera.
