Reflecting on the 4th of July in D.C.

This past Friday, I was fortunate enough to travel to the Jefferson Memorial with my friends for the 4th of July Celebration. Many D.C. residents made the same trip to the Memorial, as its position in front of the water and the Washington Monument made for prime viewing.

The steps leading up to Jefferson’s statue swarmed with people waiting to celebrate the 249th anniversary of the United States declaring its independence.

The main attraction was the fireworks show, which was spectacular. Many of the fireworks made very complex shapes and color patterns, completely blowing my mind. Additionally, it was evident how much effort went into the show while watching.

The entire crowd was in awe, transfixed by the explosions lighting up the night sky. The friends I traveled with all agreed it was well worth the journey in packed subway cars and crowded streets.

As I stood on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial, I reflected on the significance of the moment. Amidst families with young kids, veterans in uniform, tourists, and locals, I felt a deep sense of unity.

In a city often known for its politics, people celebrated and showed togetherness during this rare moment.
