Intern Spotlight: Keagan Watson

Each semester, Political Awareness proudly partners with The Washington Center’s prestigious academic internship program to bring in the brightest emerging talent. This summer, we’re thrilled to host more than 30 exceptional student interns. In this issue, we’re excited to introduce you to Keagan Watson, a senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania studying cybersecurity.

Keagan joined the team because he wanted to better understand how government works and how policies are made. With his background in cybersecurity, he was curious about how technology and politics connect. He saw this internship as a great way to explore that intersection.

“I was interested in working for Political Awareness because it seemed like a great opportunity to better understand the political atmosphere and workings of policies,” he shared.

This summer, Keagan is especially looking forward to improving his research skills and learning how to write clearly about complex issues. He’s excited to dig into policies, break them down, and help make them easier for others to understand. For him, this experience is about growing as both a student and a citizen.

At IUP, Keagan stays busy with campus involvement. He’s a Crimson Guide, a member of the IUP Ambassadors, and part of Rho Tau Chi (PTX), a group focused on leadership and academic success. Through these roles, he’s learned how to work with others and communicate effectively, skills he brings to his internship work.

Outside of academics, Keagan recently picked up a new hobby: volleyball. “I just started playing, and it’s so much fun,” he said. Whether it’s trying something new or learning about policy, he’s always ready to dive in and give it his best.

Keagan has been a great addition to the team. We’re excited to see what he does next.
