Each semester, Political Awareness proudly partners with The Washington Center’s prestigious academic internship program to bring in the brightest emerging talent. This summer, we’re thrilled to host more than 30 exceptional student interns. In this issue, we’re excited to highlight Towson senior Madeline Ireland.
Maddie is majoring in political science with a minor in marketing. This unique combination gives her both policy insight and communication strategy skills. Growing up between Frederick and Hagerstown, Maryland, she gained a well-rounded view shaped by two very different communities.
When Maddie discovered Political Awareness, the mission instantly resonated.
“I find the mission of educating voters a very important one,” she said. “An informed voter base is the backbone of democracy.”
That belief has guided her work so far, especially as she helps craft our newsletter. Through this project, she enjoys making complex topics more accessible to readers.
Looking ahead, Maddie is most excited to dive deeper into the world of policy.
“I’m really looking forward to learning more about what’s happening in government,” she shared. “Working on the newsletter has been fun, especially breaking things down in a way that makes people feel more connected to the decisions that affect them.”
At Towson, Maddie takes on many roles. She works as a career peer advisor supporting students on their professional journeys. Additionally, she remains a member of the American Marketing Association, a space where she sharpens her leadership and communication skills.
Outside of work and class, Maddie enjoys hiking, caring for her plants, listening to music, and planning her next travel adventure. Her curiosity and drive extend well beyond the classroom.
Maddie’s energy, clarity, and commitment to civic engagement are already making an impact, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
