Intern Spotlight: Sam Hutton

Political Awareness proudly partners with The Washington Center’s prestigious academic internship program to bring in the brightest emerging talent. Over the summer, we are hosting more than 30 exceptional student interns. In this edition of our intern spotlight section, we are proud to highlight Sam Hutton.

From vintage car restoration to newsroom deadlines, Hutton brings a unique blend of curiosity, craftsmanship, and civic dedication to his role this summer at Political Awareness.

Hutton is a senior at Colorado State University studying political science and history. He joins us with a sharp interest in the forces shaping American democracy and a drive to understand them better.

What drew him to Political Awareness? “It felt like the best opportunity to directly apply my skills and learn more about the influence of Super PACs,” he said. For Hutton, this internship is not just about gaining experience; it’s about making a meaningful impact and fostering long-term learning.

Additionally, Hutton is particularly excited to dig into the complex world of campaign finance. “Corporate influence in politics has always seemed obscure to me,” he noted. “I’m confident my time here will better inform my view of the American political system.”

Outside of politics, Sam is hands-on in the most literal sense. He restores vintage cars in his free time and volunteers his mechanical skills to help friends and family avoid costly repair bills. Additionally, he’s built a strong foundation in communications and civic engagement. He serves his community through The Rocky Mountain Collegian, the CSU Democracy Project, and as a desk assistant on campus.

With his thoughtful approach and extensive experience, Sam is making a lasting impact on our team this summer and beyond.
